How to Identify Depression in Yourself or Your Partner

Depression may not always be easy to identify, and can often be a silent killer if that person is unable to express their emotions and keeps them contained in the mind.

However, you should look for any sudden shifts in emotion or attitude that are not typical of your partner. They may have struggle focusing, demonstrate a lack of interest in their life or favorite hobbies, and may suddenly stop communicating, particularly any positivity.

Talking out problems can go a long way, but unfortunately depression cannot be solved over night and you should not view it as your role to cure your partner of it. Instead, you should suggest that your partner talk to someone, and be willing to support them in tackling issues they may be uncomfortable facing.

HOW TO COMBAT DEPRESSION & ANXIETY

While there is no super remedy to cure depression or anxiety, there are many strategies and techniques to help you develop ways to overcome problems so that you can resume living life in a normal way.

Some may need professional assistance with identifying suppressed problems, so that they can begin working toward making lifestyle changes that can fix the problem. In cases of clinical depression, you may need to visit a psychiatrist to receive medical-grade help for the illness.

SHOW LOVE AND CARE TO YOURSELF FIRST

By addressing problems with your depression, you are not only showing love and care to yourself, but to your partner who may also be struggling with how the problem affects your marriage. It's important to remember that YOU are not the problem, but depression is the problem and it can be managed with the right help.

Take care of yourself first so that you can be the best possible person for your partner and your marriage. Contact Swiss Power Coach LLC if you or your spouse is struggling.

What Patients Have to Share About Us

After years of marriage, we finally decided our issues might not be worth working through. We decided last minute to give counseling a try, and they really helped us discover what matters.

Janice Kraft

We hadn't been married long, but were already hitting some pretty rough spots. It was impossible to talk, but our counselor here helped us stay calm and talk it out. We identified and worked out our problems, but ultimately decided not to stay together. They helped us see that this could also be a healthy choice for both of us.

Doug Fisher

We knew having children would change our lives, but you never really know until you experience it. It felt like my world was caving in, but having a counselor who gets it help us work through the problems slowly allowed us to discover our new normal.
